September signaled a gradual transition toward fall, with slightly cooler temperatures and increased rainfall. Redfish were the stars of the month, forming large schools on the flats, especially during high tides. Topwater lures and live pilchards yielded impressive catches.
Snook began moving back into the bays and rivers, responding well to live bait presentations. Offshore, gag grouper and amberjack were targeted over deep wrecks and reefs, with live pinfish and vertical jigs producing strong bites.
Best Bait: Live pilchards for redfish and snook; live pinfish for offshore species.
Hot Spots: Flats around Fort De Soto Park for redfish; Manatee River for snook; offshore wrecks in 100+ feet for grouper and amberjack.
