October 2023 - Fall Fishing Flourishes

October brought milder temperatures and a noticeable uptick in fishing activity. Redfish remained plentiful, with anglers finding success using live shrimp and cut bait around oyster bars and mangroves. The snook bite improved as fish settled into their fall haunts within the bays.

Nearshore, the annual kingfish run commenced, with anglers trolling large spoons and live bait to hook these speedy predators. Spanish mackerel and bluefish were also prevalent, providing fast-paced action on light tackle.

Best Bait: Live shrimp for inshore species; live bait or trolling spoons for kingfish.

Hot Spots: Oyster bars in Terra Ceia Bay for redfish; passes and inlets for snook; nearshore waters off Anna Maria Island for kingfish.
