August 2024 - Beat the Heat with Deeper Water Fishing

August was one of the hottest months of the year, meaning the best fishing was early in the morning, late in the evening, or in deeper, cooler waters. Snook were still thick along the beaches and passes, while redfish were schooling up in shaded mangrove creeks and deeper flats.

Trout fishing picked up again in 5–8 feet of water, with anglers using DOA shrimp and topwater plugs to capitalize on early morning feeding windows.

Offshore, mangrove snapper fishing remained hot, with many fish being caught on live bait and small jigs in 40–60 feet. Those fishing deeper wrecks found gag grouper and amberjack in excellent numbers, while permit were still present on offshore wrecks.

🔹 Best Bait: Live whitebait for snook and trout; cut bait for redfish; small pinfish for grouper

🔹 Hot Spots: Deeper grass flats for trout; nearshore ledges for snapper; offshore wrecks for permit
