As the temperatures climb, the fishing is leveling off--in terms of numbers, but not size.
Tarpon still cruise the beaches of Anna Maria Island and longboat key, but as of late the Skyway bridge is the place to be if you're looking consistent tarpon action. In shore isn't as active as off the beaches are, but there are still fish to be caught, like this 22" trout proved (which happened to be his first saltwater fish, but definitely not his last). We caught this on a large pinfish used as cutbait (live pinfish are working now too, but it seems as if the big boys want it cut. Use a 15 lb. flouro leader with smaller hooks--trust me).
While numbers haven't been earth-shattering, a lot of big fish are being caught in the area so use that as an excuse to ditch work and come see for yourself what Anna Maria Island fishing is all about.
