Fishing this week was lights out. Father and son O'Maley crushed it, catching several bruiser trout and jacks with plenty of opportunities for redfish as well. With an abundant amount of baitfish on the flats, our go to live bait has been shiners fished either with or without a cork (a cork is recommended when those winds pick up and clients have a tough time casting or they are having some trouble feeling the hits).
As far as artificial lures go, spoons and plastic baits on jigheads have been the ticket--just make sure to keep them clear of weeds! Fly selection is nothing fancy: a chartreuse and white clouser minnow stripped quickly under some mangroves on high tides or over the potholes on the flats during low tides has been the ticket.
Get out there and remember that Anna Maria Island is the home for some of the best/diverse saltwater fishing in the world.
Tight lines!
